Why a new Icelandic running website?

On hlaupadagskra.is you can now find a complete list of all confirmed and unconfirmed races in Iceland. The basic idea is to compile in a simple list key information from all events that can be called running events, whether they are certified competitive road races, ITRA off-road races or just organized events for a good cause.

The races are categorized, with links to further information pages, registration pages and social media. This first version of the site is not great, but at least it has complete information about all the running-related events in 2025, which are many.

Our goal with hlaupadagskra.is is to fulfill the desire of runners to see all races throughout the year in one place and be able to search and filter in an accessible way. Races are marked “confirmed, registration open” and such if the event organizers have announced such but “Unconfirmed” or “until there is a correct timing or the race will not be held.

The website is run by two runners with a passion for running without any direct connection to any specific company or event, so the support of the running community is important. Óskar Þór and Tommi are sometimes called the "shorts brothers" as they are easily recognizable in their shorts all year round.
